Satisfy Mr. Krabs’ cravings in this dark parody

Mr. Krabs Overdoses On Ketamine is a free single-player action video game wherein you play as Mr. Krabs on the hunt for his next fix. Developed by ThrillDaWill, this indie platformer game is a dark parody fanmade adventure based on the popular cartoon TV show, SpongeBob SquarePants. While offering fun action-packed gameplay, its themes are not for children as they openly revolve around crude language, drugs, and violence.

Strongly dissonant

SpongeBob SquarePants is an American animated comedy television series created by Stephen Hillenburg. The story follows the misadventures of the titular character and his aquatic friends in the fictional underwater city of Bikini Bottom. It became one of the highest-rated children’s shows of all time and spawned various media like movies and video games. Like other kiddie shows, it sometimes displays adult jokes but this is taken to the extreme in certain fangames.

In particular, Mr. Krabs Overdoses On Ketamine features dark themes only suitable for adults. You control Mr. Krabs, who now sells illegal drugs to the other characters of the show. He’s suffering from addiction, as well, and your goal is to satisfy him with enough collected ketamine. You’ll have to avoid some mind-controlled NPCs, however, as they’ll attack you on sight. Fortunately, you can fight back—either with your fists or your speedboat.

Graphics-wise, this game offers an interesting mix of bright clear backgrounds with accurate 3D models of the characters. The new designs for some of the main cast look horrifying, though, in order to portray their addiction. This art dissonance is what makes the game shine since it’s not fully being dark, but its contents definitely are. However, the models can easily glitch into buildings. The battle against Plankton also sometimes crashes your game.

Certainly a memorable game

While the overall story is dark and not suitable for minors, Mr. Krabs Overdoses On Ketamine is a surprisingly-fun game due to its combat mechanics, as you can also climb, roll to dodge, crouch, change camera angles, and even slow time down to perform cool-looking moves. However, the character models can easily phase through some background models and force you to restart—which is annoying as there’s no save system. Plus, the final scene can crash the game.

PROS

  • An interesting graphic style of bright colors and horrific character models
  • Comprehensive list of combat actions
  • Somewhat-hilarious dialogue
  • No penalty for fighting like in the GTA series

CONS

  • Contains themes not suitable for children
  • The wonky 3d models may break the game progression
  • The final battle can crash your game without warning
  • No save system
